Fastest Cars In The World: Top 6 List 2011-2012

World's Fastest Cars

While most of us can only dream of owning the fastest car in the world, some will do whatever it takes to possess the most powerful speed. So, how fast are the fastest cars in the world? Here are the 6 fastest cars available on the market (production models, as opposed to concept cars) measured by tested top speed (theoretical speeds do not count).

6. Koenigsegg CCX: 245 mph, 0-60 in 3.2 secs. 90 Degree V8 Engine 806 hp, base price is $545,568. Made in Sweden, it is the older brother of the Agera R, only losing to 4 other supercars in the world.

5. Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo: 248 mph, 0-60 in 2.8 secs. Twin Turbo All Aluminum V8 Engine with 750 hp, base price is $555,000. Smooth and bad-ass. It will make you want to show it off non-stop.

4. SSC Ultimate Aero: 257 mph, 0-60 in 2.7 secs. Twin-Turbo V8 Engine with 1183 hp, base price is $654,400. Tested in March 2007 by Guinness World Records, The SSC Ultimate Aero was the fastest car in the world from March 2007 to July 2010. On March 2011, the Koenigsegg Agera R also surpassed it, forcing this American made car to the #3 spot.

3. Koenigsegg Agera R: 260 mph, 0-60 in 2.9 secs. 5.0-liter V8 Engine with twin turbo’s, housing 1099 hp. Base price is $1,600,000. If you're into snow sports, the Agera R can be fitted with a Ski Box as well as winter tires, not that I would take one on a ski trip or anything like that. While the Agera R has a massive theoretical top speed, the current tested top speed is 260 mph. Expect this snow car to be the Bugatti's arch enemy for the next 5 years.

2. Bugatti Veyron Super Sport: 267 mph, 0-60 in 2.4 secs. Aluminum, Narrow Angle 8 Liter W16 Engine with 1200 hp, base price is $2,400,000. Although the Bugatti Veyron lost the title to SSC Ultimate Aero on March 2007, Bugatti challenge the record in Germany on July 10, 2010 with the new 2010 Super Sport Version and the Veyron once again claims the title of the fastest car in the world at 267 mph. The original Bugatti Veyron has a top speed of 253 mph, priced at $1,700,000 and equipped with 1001 hp.

Toyota Planning Electric Car Blitz in 2012 with Sales of Prius PHEV, RAV4 EV and Scion iQ EV

The leader in hybrid technology, Toyota will make a big push into further electrifying its fleet when it begins retails sales of the Prius Plug-In Hybrid, as well as two fully electric vehicles, next year. Toyota has confirmed that along with the Prius PHEV, it will begin selling an electric version of the RAV4 compact crossover, as well as a fully-electric version of the Scion iQ mini-car.

Toyota has partnered with Tesla Motors and displayed the RAV4 EV Demonstration Vehicle at the LA Auto Show last year, using the start-up American electric car company’s battery technology. The vehicle weights 220-lbs more than the standard model, but has acceleration on-par with its gasoline counterpart and manages to retain all of the 74 cu-ft of cargo room. Toyota is targeting a 100 mile range.

The second full-EV to hit dealers will be an electric version of the Scion iQ, with a gasoline-powered version arriving later this year. Using lithium-ion batteries under the floor it will retain the 3+1 passenger layout and improve the car’s center of gravity. Toyota is targeting a 65 mile range for this vehicle, designed for inter-city use.

Before those, however, Toyota will take its next step in developing the Prius, releasing the Prius PHEV. With a lithium-ion battery pack it will deliver 12 miles of emissions-free driving before operating more like a conventional hybrid. It isn’t expected to get nearly the same efficiency as the Chevy Volt, but will be priced just slightly higher than the conventional Prius, making it a higher-volume, more mainstream model.

Takero’s Honda Fit RS Is Looking Jazzy

Japanese tuner, Takero’s, is currently developing some aerodynamic pieces for the Honda Fit under its RS label, potentially offering a more affordable alternative to Mugen. The company’s demo car, however, shows the best of both worlds, with Takero’s body parts mixed in with Mugen’s. Most notably is there front bumper replacement, which is a less aggressive design than Mugen’s Fit and features a carbon fiber lip and carbon fiber front grille.

On their demo car, Takero’s uses Mugen’s side skirts which flow well with their front bumper while it rolls on 17×7-inch +53 offset Work Emotion XD9 wheels. On the rear of the car is a Mugen rear bumper, but Takero’s shows off their roof spoiler which can also be had with a carbon fiber lip, giving it a really clean and unique look.

We’re thinking it’s safe to assume Takero’s will outfit the Fit will a full body kit from bumper to bumper, but so far the progress they have made has been very impressive and we look forward to the finished product.

Honda named most reliable car maker

Honda has been named the most reliable car maker in the UK by warranty experts Warranty Direct.
The Japanese manufacturer was revealed as having only a nine percent chance of developing a fault over a 12 month period – a long way clear of the second most reliable manufacturer, Toyota at 15 percent.

Japanese brands dominated the most reliable list, with Suzuki coming in third, closely followed by Lexus, Mitsubishi, Mazda and Subaru. The only non Japanese brands in the top ten were Korean makers Hyundai and Kia, while Nissan completed the list.

The study looked at cars aged between three and eight years old over a 12 month period and assessed both reliability and average cost of repair. Here the European brands fared better, with Fiat, Renault and Ford the cheapest to fix, with the Italian brand the least expensive at an average of £241.63 per repair.

The most expensive to fix proved to also be European, as Porsche emerged as the priciest to mend, at an average of £689.99 – a long way ahead of second dearest maker Mazda at £462.58.

The Europeans also dominated the list of the least reliable manufacturers as well, with Land Rover picking up the unwanted title of least trustworthy maker. Its cars had a staggering 55 percent chance of going wrong over the same 12 month period.

Alfa Romeo and Renault completed the unhappy trio at the bottom of the pile, with 46 percent and 45 percent of their cars going wrong respectively.

Warranty Direct managing director, Duncan McClure Fisher, said: “Car buying is a tricky business, but all most people want is hassle-free motoring.

“Finding a car that can be relied upon is one factor, and maintenance is another – even the most trustworthy vehicles need some TLC to keep going.”

Mitsubishi EVO XI Back On

A few weeks ago, in a discussion with Mitsubishi global product director Gayu Eusegi, Autocar reported him saying that the current Lancer Evolution X would be the last of the Evos, thus allowing Mitsubishi to concentrate on building EVs and other fuel-efficient vehicles. However, after much backlash from enthusiasts in the form of numerous Facebook groups and petitions, Mitsubishi President and CEO Osamu Masuko has announced that the Evo X would not, in fact, be the last of the Evolutions.

“Production of the current Lancer Evolution X continues as planned,” he told Autocar, “As for its successor, regulations and market feedback will dictate its engineering package and architecture.” There’s nothing new there as it was previously stated that the current Evo X was supposed to stick around at least another year, until 2012.

However, Masuko continued on to say, “As the market’s needs and demands change, Mitsubishi is considering not advancing the Lancer Evolution concept in the same way as before, but to find a different direction for the Lancer Evolution model to evolve.”

What does that mean exactly?

The rumor has long been that the Evo XI would be a diesel-electric hybrid. Such a powertrain would allow the Evo XI to hustle to 0-60 MPH in under 5 seconds while still receiving better fuel economy than the current Evo. At this stage, anything can happen. Masuko concluded the interview by saying, "The new direction, the technologies involved, and corresponding products will be disclosed in due course."

Proton Saga FLX - MALAYSIA

Proton has recently launched new Saga FLX which use of continuously variable transmission (CTV) technology. The launch followed the company’s announcement earlier in June declaring the successful development and integration of CVT technology with its CamPro engine.

The car will deliver a fuel consumption drop of four per cent in urban driving environment and 10 per cent on highways with the use of its Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) technology.

The upgraded version uses a belt system to transform torque to power, making gearshifts smoother and reduces oil consumption to ensure a smoother driving experience.

Proton vehicle testing practicability department manager, Halid Deni, said the company has compared the car with the previous model (Saga FL), and found that it was more economical and based on the data, the improvement was around six per cent.

The new model is also equipped with a stepped automatic transmission (SAT) — only for automatic variant — which gives the gearshift sensation of a standard six-speed automatic transmission.

The previous model’s automatic variant was only equipped with a standard four-speed transmission while both models still use the same engine capacity of 1.3 litres.

On top of the CVT, Proton has also improvised the security features by installing the gear lock, a missing feature in the previous model.

The Saga FLX, comes with on-the-road price from RM38,598 (manual) to RM44,998 (automatic) in Peninsular Malaysia and from RM41,378 (manual) to RM47,798 (automatic) in Sabah and Sarawak. - BLOG E KERETA

Honda Civic Hybrid owner claims defects in IMA system

One of the issue that consumer will ask when considering a green hybrid car is on the batter lifespan and of course the battery replacement cost. Our government was generous enough when the giving a tax free on hybrid below 2.0cc and we can expect the same tax structure will continue next year.

If 1 year ago, Prius, Insight or Lexus CT200h hardly been seen on our roads, with the new tax structure we can see them everyday. Last week, I guess many has heard that one angry Honda Civic Hybrid owner claims defect on the IMA system. Eventhough, the case has not been settled yet, but this I hope can trigger the government at least to force the manufacturer to provide longer warranty on the system just like what the offer to other market such as UK and US.

Lets we wait and see the result of this…. - blog e-kereta

JDM TUNER - MEAN MACHINE 2010

What is JDM? what does it mean and why is it so popular?

Japanese domestic market (JDM) is a term for Japan's economic market for Japanese-brand goods, such as automobiles and parts. The term's most common application is to Japanese-brand automobiles built specifically for the Japanese market, i.e., designed and constructed to conform to Japanese vehicle and equipment regulations and to suit Japanese market preferences. JDM vehicles migrate to other markets through ordinary commerce and the grey market.

JDM vehicles often differ in features and equipment from vehicles sold elsewhere. For example, Honda has produced many different versions of the B18C, B16B and K20A engines for various markets worldwide. Generally, engines intended for use outside Japan have been detuned because Japanese Gasoline (Petrol) is of a higher octane rating than is generally available in other markets.[citation needed]

There are safety hazards associated with using JDM headlamps in countries where traffic flows along the right side of the road, because JDM headlamps, engineered for use on the left side of the road, fail to light the right-side driver's way safely ahead while blinding oncoming motorists[1]. Nevertheless, primarily due to marketing efforts, JDM headlamps are quite popular.

In automotive culture, JDM refers to a style of modifying automobiles, mainly cars of Japanese origin.[citation needed] The function of components is often preferred[attribution needed] over cosmetic appeal.[citation needed] "True" Japanese domestic market components are also preferred[attribution needed] over Japanese aftermarket.[citation needed] An example of one such market is the import of used Japanese engines to North America to be put into Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Mazda, Subaru and Mitsubishi sports cars for higher performance.
